The Mid-Carolina Physician Organization (MCPO) was formed in 1995 by physicians dedicated to high-quality, cost-effective health care. There are currently 350+ physicians participating in MCPO. These members have privileges at FirstHealth of the Carolinas hospitals in Moore, Montgomery, and Richmond Counties of NC. The service area includes Moore, Montgomery, Hoke, Richmond, Scotland and Lee Counties of North Carolina.

MCPO is actively involved in Quality Improvement initiatives at many levels. MCPO physician-members have served on leadership/work groups for formal discussions regarding the formation of an area Integrated Health System.  Physicians and information technology coordinators in MCPO practices are part of an area collaboration dealing with challenges and divergent needs of different health care providers' organizations for information technology preparedness.

In addition, MCPO formed and hosts a Practice Administrators' Association with monthly meetings which create a sense of community among staff from MCPO practices. Through this association MCPO members have access to continuing educational opportunities for practice managers, billing/coding personnel, compliance officers and clinical staff. Educational programs are selected to benefit staff by providing current information and tools to improve understanding and skill sets.
